Spotting An Investment Scam
INTRODUCTION
How Scammers Are Getting More Convincing
This week’s blog will be looking at how to spot and avoid investment scams. According to new research[1], about half of British individuals (51%) have received or know someone who has received a suspicious contact in the past 12 months. This equates to 27 million individuals in the United Kingdom.
The majority of these cases (51%) can be categorised as ‘phishing scams,’ in which a fraudster impersonates a reputable firm or person to obtain sensitive information from the victim. One in five individuals indicate that they or someone they know has been a victim of a crypto-related fraud over the past 12 months. Nearly one in ten (8%) encounters involve pension transfer scams, and romance and dating scams account for 11% of contacts.
Tomorrow we will look at some of the scams that you need to be aware of. Please contact us for more information on how we can help protect your future financial well-being and the options available to you.
